If you don't want to take on a major renovation project but are fed up of the appearance of your bathroom, here are two easy ways to spruce up this space.

Create a cohesive decorative theme through accents

You are probably already aware that a bathroom needs to have a cohesive decorative theme in order to look aesthetically-pleasing. However, what you may not realise is that it's possible to achieve this with just a few minor adjustments; there's no need to undertake any significant renovation work (such as replacing the flooring or repainting the walls, for example).  Just a few simple changes to the small accessories and fixtures in your bathroom can completely transform its appearance.

The first thing you'll need to do is to choose a theme; you might love the traditional look, or you may be aiming for a minimalist, modern style. Keep your selected theme in mind when shopping for your bathroom accessories and fixtures, and make sure that each item you purchase is keeping with the look you wish to achieve.

If for example, you want your bathroom to have a vintage aesthetic, you may want to opt for an antique brass light switch cover and an old-school vessel faucet, along with drawer pulls and a towel rail in a matching finish. If you're aiming for a contemporary look, you might consider buying a collection of sleek chrome accessories, such as a toothbrush holder, toilet roll holder, and a soap dish.

Create a focal point

A well-designed space will always have a visual focal point; that is, one feature which the eye is immediately drawn to when one enters the room. Introducing a carefully-chosen focal point into your otherwise drab space can completely alter its ambience. In addition to making it far more visually interesting, it can also help to detract from some of its less appealing features.

In a bathroom, there are several different features which you could use as your focal point, but as the bathing area is usually the largest and therefore most noticeable part of the space, it's normally easiest to use this. Replacing the shower screen or curtain is one of the fastest and simplest ways to create a focal point.

There are a wide variety of beautifully designed shower screens and curtains available nowadays, with geometric, floral or other striking patterns printed on them. You can enhance your new focal point even further by 'framing' the bathing area with artwork, plants or candles, thus helping to draw more attention to your bathroom's most attractive feature.
